The Space Exploration group brings together people interested in all aspects of space (and time). Our meetings explore the many mysteries of our Universe, from asteroids to aliens, from black holes to the Big Bang – and much more!


We kick off with an update on space related news items of interest gathered by members and presented in our Space News report.

Talks by members are presented with lots of graphics and in a fun way so that everyone can appreciate the content. We range over the technologies of space exploration to presentations of what the science is telling us about space. Many topics provoke lively discussions when members give free rein to their knowledge and imagination!

• The race to return to the Moon – China or America?
• Practicalities of establishing a lunar base.
• Could humans survive a trip to Mars?
• Tracking billions of galaxies and making sense of the results.
• Asteroid mining – is it feasible and why would you do it?
• Astrobiology – habitable planets and alien forms.
• Where did all the elements come from?
• How can we deal with the threat from space junk?
• Hunting dark matter and dark energy.
