OUR GROUPS
The ethos of a u3a group is that it is an enjoyable, sociable, shared learning experience. Our groups organise their own activities and usually hold meetings in venues in Hexham and Corbridge. Each group has a 'convenor' who is the first point of contact for the group. The convenor usually keeps track of group membership and organises the timetable but all the members of the group contribute to its activities. Each group is a collective venture that works best with active input and contributions to the group programme from all members. Each group organises its own meeting time and venue. If it is necessary to hire a venue the cost is shared equally amongst the group. Most groups meet for around two hours.
JOINING A GROUP
If you are interested in joining a group, or attending a group for a trial session, please contact the convenor to discuss the way forward. If you are making contact by e-mail please include a phone number if possible so the convenor can call you back if they need to. Just a gentle reminder that to join any of the groups (other than for a taster session) you must already have joined Tynedale u3a.
Some groups may be unable to accept new members either because they simply don't work with larger numbers - this particularly applies to language and discussion groups - or already meet the maximum capacity of their venue. If this is the case with a group you would like to join you may be able to put your name on a waiting list, Sometimes if there is enough of interest a second group can be formed. If there are several groups with the same interest it may be possible to combine their waiting lists to form another group.
