Welcome to this group, Art Appreciation 1. We are currently 30 art enthusiasts who love looking at works of art (paintings, sculptures, architecture, installations, photography etc) and learning about them but we do not take ourselves too seriously.

We enjoy learning about artists through the ages. Some members volunteer to lead the session with a talk or slide presentation with links to experts on You tube.

Each year, some members volunteer to devise a programme for the following year. In the past we have had programmes looking at Landscape, Women in Art, British Artists of the 20th Century, Scandinavian Art, Russian Art, however, this year we are following a programme of 20 free standing sessions looking at artists that the group members have expressed a wish to study. We have built in “Desert Island” sessions too, so that those who wish to highlight a favourite work of art can do so.

Please phone or email the Convenor if you are interested in joining the group. We are a very friendly group and enjoy meeting new members. If we run out of space, there are other Art App groups. The group does not organise visits to galleries / exhibitions. We meet in a room in Hexham Abbey every fortnight on Monday mornings from September 8th , 2025.
