In the best tradition of the U3A we are a self-help group. Many of us only begin to explore our family history when it is too late to ask our older relatives about the inevitable, family secrets. Some of our members have already started to research their family tree. Others have just taken that decision and are looking for help and encouragement. 

We aim to learn about our ancestors, (not just the bare facts) and record their lives and times for posterity. 

The Monday Group was established first, and some members have made great progress with their research while others are just beginning. We meet once a month on a Monday morning.

The Thursday Group was created more recently to accommodate the high level of interest in the topic and meets once a month on a Thursday morning. 

Both groups welcome new members and enjoy helping newcomers who have only recently begun their research and look for encouragement and guidance in next steps, or have gaps in their family tree to fill. 

The groups enjoy lively discussions, occasional joint social occasions and have arranged visits to the archives. We share our knowledge, celebrate our triumphs, commiserate on our research failures and enjoy the varied, and sometimes colourful stories we unearth about our ancestors.
